Captain Commando, Capcom's Forgotten Superhero

Nintendo has Mario. Sega has Sonic the Hedgehog. Namco has Pac-Man. Video game mascots are more than just smiling figures that wave at fans from ads and packages. They become the faces of their respective companies, embodying their core values and identities. Video game mascots help drive innovation and development within their companies and often produce some of the best titles a company has to offer (looking at you, Super Mario World.) Even Sony began to accumulate a few familiar faces for their brand throughout the '90s with the likes of Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon. Capcom, one of the biggest and most respected video game developers in the industry, has also released many famous and iconic franchises over the years, but the particular character that was once their mascot isn't very well known. Neither Mega Man nor Ryu, Capcom’s original mascot was a heroic and mysterious spacefarer by the name of Captain Commando.
